We aimed to develop and assess the feasibility and acceptability of a smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA) study targeting minority stress and suicidal ideation among sexual and gender minority youth. This innovative approach leverages mobile technology to capture real-time mental health indicators, offering a powerful tool for early intervention and mental health monitoring in this vulnerable population. The study emphasizes the potential of smartphones as an accessible and user-friendly platform for collecting data on minority stress, which is highly relevant given the disparities in mental health care access faced by sexual and gender minorities.
The study highlights the promising potential of mobile technology in addressing mental health disparities and improving access to mental health services for underrepresented groups. Further research is needed to validate these findings and expand the scope of mobile-based mental health interventions.
